River Reports

Gunnison River

Updated 08/18/20
Status: Flows are down, but the fishing is still very productive!
Details:It is time to start adjusting with the flows!! Find the fast moving riffles and fish smaller flies. Flies in the 18 and 20 size range. Try perdigons, zebra midges, RS2's. Look for great dry fly activity but also go small here. Parachute Adams 22, 24.

Black Canyon

Updated: 8/18/20
Details: Hoppers are here an are moving healthy trout! We recommend bringing a few different imitations of the hopper before the inevitable strenuous hike into the canyon. Yellow sallies imitations have also been productive. Fly recommendations: Hoppers, Chubby chernobyl, yellow sally dries, Pat's rubberlegs, Prince nymphs, Iron Sallies, and the classic pheasant tail. Bring extra water, like more than you think.

East River

Updated 8/18/20
Status: The River is Thin.
Details: We are seeing BWO's and PMD's with Caddis in the evenings. The Wild Trout water at Roaring Judy is good early with small dries. Yellow humpy 20, Parachute Adams 18, 20, 22. Elk Hair Caddis 20

Taylor River

Updated 8/18/20
Details: Flows are solid. 231cfs being released out of the Reservoir, 285 at ALMONT. The river at this level is great to wade. PMD's and BWO's are coming off most days. A Parachute Adams or another mayfly imitiaion in smaller sizes tend to do the trick. Caddis are also a solid option.  Hopper paterns also tend to move even the weariest of fish during warmer, brighter days. Due to the nature of the river being dam fed, the water stays cooler and the fish are less lethargic on warmer days.

Updated: 7/31/2020
Status: Low
Details:Only fish the early mornings or cooler days. Fishing these waters when warm can and will create fishkill. Be ethical. Ruby Anthracite - Low, Anthracite creek - Low, Cement Creek - Low, Brush Creek- low, Spring Creek - good to go, Texas Creek - good to go, Cochetopa Creek - very low, Willow Creek- low, Coal Creek- particulary dismal outlook. The choices are many and you can choose to hike in to get away from the crowds. Prepare properly and enjoy dry fly fishing with lighter fly rod weights.
