Moose Hofer

Hometown: Gunnison, CO

Guide Experience: 25 years of trout guiding in Colorado. I’ve also guided trout and salmon in Iceland, and Chile. USCG Captain with several seasons in the Everglades and Boca Grande, Florida. Big game, waterfowl, and upland guiding experience as well. I have a definite preference for technical dry fly fishing, and swinging flies. Single hand, switch, and 2 handers are all in my guide quiver. I place a heavy emphasis on teaching fly fishing skills along with catch and release practices, and often overlooked river ethics/etiquette.

Fishing Experience: I received my first fly rod as a Christmas gift when I was six years old. Since then, I have been pursuing fish in almost every body of water I can find… fresh, salt, coldwater, and warmwater. I like to wade, row, tie flies, teach casting, and pole a skiff. I’ve been fortunate to catch species from carp and bluegill to Atlantic salmon and tarpon.

Hobbies: Skiing, mountain biking, playing music—bass guitar, traditional archery, and shed hunting.

Favorite Thing About Guiding: I get to be on the water daily with clients experiencing the fishing firsthand— it’s the best office in the world!
